Sunset Alpaca Stud is owned and managed by Willem and Dita
Alblas. They immigrated to Australia from The Netherlands in 1987 and
arrived in New Zealand in 1993, where they have owned and ran several
businesses since then.
Willem bought their first six alpacas in 2004, after buying a
7ha property with export flowers and passionfruit, and some 4ha of grazing
at Katikati in the Bay of Plenty.
At the beginning of 2010 we sold that property and bought a
22ha (55 acre) grazing block in Te Puke. This property is 350m above sea
level and therefore ideal for alpaca, with a very low facial eczema risk
and enough summer rainfall.
Now Willem and Dita concentrate entirely on breeding alpacas
and own a herd of more than 150 alpacas.
We started off with a wide range of colours, but the last few
years concentrate on the breeding of top quality black huacaya alpaca.
Most of the black alpacas have been imported from Australia with elite
Peruvian genetics. Sunset Alpaca Stud is now one of the top black huacaya
studs in New Zealand.
Willem and Dita work very closely with the world renowned
Australian black Stud, Canchones, with whom they co-own some full Peruvian
black stud males. By now, Sunset Alpaca Stud have most of Canchones's top black genetics in
their herd and are proud to show you their outstanding quality progeny.
