OCTOBER 2011
The 2011 Alpaca Expo, National Show and Auction, was held the 30th of September to the 2nd of October.
It was the biggest Alpaca Show ever held in New Zealand with 467 alpacas and 181 fleeces entered.
This made for some very big classes and therefore every ribbon won was a great achievement.
The show was a great success and the venue at Baypark worked very well. The visitors number was also a new record for an Expo.
For us, Sunset Alpaca Stud, it was a very successful show with many ribbons and a trophy won.
The most impressive one was winning CHAMPION BLACK HUACAYA FLEECE.
The other very special result we had was in the Junior Male Huacaya Black class. There were 19 entries, 3 were ours.
Our three alpacas pulled of 1st, 2nd and 3rd in that class.
Below all of our results.

AUGUST 2011
The
latest group of alpacas from Canchones Alpacas and Sunset Alpaca
Stud, that left our property, have arrived in Germany. They are all
in good health and good condition. It's supposed to be summer in
Europe, but as you can see, not really summer weather. We are sure
that the alpacas will have a bright future ahead of them. They will
be very well looked after by Wolfgang and Babett on their Miriquidi-black
alpaca farm.
Last
weekend we had a visit from four young Malaysian women, Hooi Khee,
Phey Chen, Hui Yi and Jojo. They had never seen an alpaca in their
lives before and really enjoyed seeing and touching them. All of the
women liked it so much that they are coming back to give us a hand
with some halter training. In the afternoon they all felted a scarf
from alpaca fibre. It wasn't the nicest day for it, but they all
ended up with a beautiful scarf.

JULY 2011
Congratulations
to Joyce and Bob Martin of Martina Lifestyle Alpacas on their
purchase of a share in Canchones Tycoon. Tycoon is one of our top
Black Huacaya stud males with a exceptional show record. Whenever
Tycoon has been shown he has always won first place, even against
significant competition. At Kumue this year Canchones Tycoon was
even awarded Champion Black Huacaya in a very strong black line-up.

Jenny
and Martyn Ellwood-Wade of Cuesta Alpacas have added two more Black
Huacaya Stud Males to their Black Herd. They have purchased shares
in Canchones Tycoon and Sunsetestate Nitro. Sunsetestate Nitro is
only one of two black males out of the late top male, Banksia Park
Moonraider ET, in New Zealand and one out of four in total. Cuesta
Alpacas and Sunset Alpaca Stud are both looking forward to using
these two top males over their elite females. Canchones Tycoon is
available for outside matings.

Wainui
Height Alpacas has extended their stud male line-up with the
purchase of a half share in Sunsetestate Jaxxon. Sunsetestate Jaxxon
is out of Australia's absolute top black male, Blaka Galahad. His
dam is one of our top Peruvian females, Canchones Murmur ET. Jaxxon
has all the characteristics of his sire and has been doing very well
in the show ring. Along with Wendy and Bruce Johnstone, we are
looking forward to his first cria.
Sunset
Alpaca Stud currently has females from, and females pregnant to,
Blaka Galahad for sale. Please give us a ring or send an email if
you would like some more information.

JUNE 2011
The biggest
alpaca show of the year is rapidly getting closer, THE NATIONAL ALPACA
EXPO 2011. The really exiting thing is that, this year for the first
time, it will be held right here in The Bay of Plenty. The venue is at
Baypark, Mount Maunganui. It will be held over 3 days, from the 30th of
September to the 2nd of October. All the alpacas, the show ring and
the trade stands will be in the 3 large exhibition halls behind the
stadium. We, Sunset Alpaca Stud, will be sponsoring the Grey Huacaya
Champion.
So, write
this date in your diary and come and admire all the wonderful animals and
have a look at everything that has to do with alpacas. We will be there
with our show team as well.

MAY 2011
Lots of
people enjoyed our alpacas on National Alpaca Day. We were very lucky with
the weather on the day. It was not too bad at all, not cold and even some
sunshine. About 75 people came through the gate and all of them enjoyed
the wonderful alpacas. The kids especially liked petting the young alpacas
(cria). Thank you all for coming along. If you couldn't visit us on the
day or want some more information about alpacas, just drop us a line so
we can arrange a day and time for you to visit us. You are always welcome.

April 2011
Sunday the
1st of May is National Alpaca Day
Our farm will be open to the
public from 10.00am till 4.00pm. We have 150 alpacas on the farm in all
different colours. There are still lots of little babies (cria) running
around, so come and adore these wonderful animals for yourself. We will be
there to answer all your questions. Hope to see you all on the 1st of May.
Another very impressive show result. This time at the Royal Easter Show in
Auckland.
We only took
4 black huacaya to the Auckland Show. The results speak for themselves.

show team. There are lots of cria running around for us to pick from. We
are very happy with the cria from this season - we think that there are
some spectacular ones. Just come and see for yourself, you are always
welcome at our farm. There is something for everyone, from pet alpacas
right through to absolute top quality breeding stock.

This was
another fabulous result and shows again the depth of our quality genetics.
To win Champion Black again, but with a different animal, one of our
Mature Male's. Also winning Sire's Progeny from all the other colours with
blacks is not easy, but Shine and Jaxxon pulled it off. Their sire is
Blaka Galahad in Australia. We do have a Blaka Galahad female and male for
sale and a few females mated to him as well.
We now have a
good amount of cria on the ground from all our stud males. All looking
very good with some even looking spectacular. So, if you want to have a
look at top quality black huacaya, e-mail or ring us to make an
appointment for a visit. You are always welcome.
Yes, we are
back from Europe
While we were
over there, we visited several alpaca breeders in The Netherlands, Germany
and Belgium. It was very interesting to see for ourselves what the quality
of the alpacas in Europe is like. In our opinion, there are a small amount
of top quality animals, a reasonable amount of medium quality animals and
a large amount of lower quality animals. As breeders of black alpacas, we
were really interested in looking at breeders with black alpacas. One of
these breeders we visited were Wolfgang Eckardt and Babett Kunze of
Miriquidi Alpacas in Germany. We were very pleased to see that their black
breeding program was well advanced and we are very happy to have made some
good friends there.
We are
very excited with the birth of our first Canchones Atonement cria. He
has a very dense, crimpy fleece with lots of lustre (as you can see in the
photos). The cria is out of a medium quality black dam. So we very much
look forward to the cria being born out of our top quality black females.
There are still some females pregnant to Atonement that are to deliver
this season and we have a fair few females pregnant to him for next
season. Atonement is now available for outside matings, on farm or mobile.
So, don't hesitate to contact us by phone or e-mail. Or have a look at our
"Stud services" page to select another top quality black sire.

JANUARY 2011
A VERY
HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE
We would like
everyone to know that we are visiting Europe from the 21st of January till
the 4th of February 2011.
During this
time we will be visiting Alpaca Studs in The Netherlands, Germany and
Belgium.
These days,
we are involved in the importing of alpacas from Australia and the
exporting to Europe. At the end of January 2011 a group of 15 animals,
from Canchones Australia, will arrive on our property. Eight of these
alpacas have been sold to Germany already and the other seven are to
compliment our herd. The alpacas for Germany will be staying on our
property for 6 months, before flying to Europe. Our seven alpacas are also
for sale, together with more then 100 other alpacas on our farm.
We
concentrate on breeding BLACK alpacas, but we also still have alpacas for
sale in all other colours. All with very good genetics. The females can be
mated to the male of your choice.
We have the
biggest top quality line-up of BLACK HUACAYA STUD MALES in New Zealand.
Our herdcode for the black alpacas is SE and for the other colours ECD on
the New Zealand database.
We would like
to invite everyone interested in importing alpacas through us into Europe,
or who would just like to meet us, to get in contact with us. It would be
really nice to meet you all in person. We speak English, Dutch and German.
